The special demands placed on personal protective equipment in Europe are described under the EN standard. These garments must be CE marked and approved according to the EN 471 standard. The standard describes, among other things, the colors that are allowed, where to place the reflective material and the information that must accompany the garment. Clothing design must also follow certain criteria in order to achieve the best possible visibility in the workplace. In the standard there are three classes and it specifies the amount of fluorescent fabric and the reflective area dimension in each of them:
CLASS I

It is the least in terms of protection. The total fluorescent area must be at least 0.14m2 and the reflective area 0.10m2. It should only be used if there is little contact with some vehicles in little traffic movement.

CLASS 2

Much better protection than Class 1, especially during the day and in fog. The total fluorescent area should be 0.50.14 m2 and the reflective area 0.13 m2. It is often used in ports, railways, construction sites, parking spaces, vehicle loading and other places where class 3 is not required.

CLASS 3

It is the highest level of protection. The fluorescent area must be at least 0.80m2 and the reflective area 0.20 m2. It is used closely with fast traffic.
